Two of the most commonly used chain grades in the maritime sector are Grade 2 and Grade 3. But what really sets them apart?

The grade of a chain indicates the mechanical performance of the finished product, not just the material quality. This classification system identifies chains based on their overall mechanical properties, such as breaking load and tensile strength, and is expressed by a number (e.g., Grade 2, Grade 3).

Grade 2 chain: made of carbon steel with standard strength.
Grade 3 chain: made of alloy steel or heat-treated steel, offering higher strength.
